I can relate to this.
Only for me, I am addicted to caffeine. I can't even function around people or in society without being overly tired, cranky, and hostile towards other people unless I have at least a full pot of coffee before I leave my house or a monster energy drink. Our problems are similar so I don't know what else to say. |

I am also a sugar addict and I have no interest in quitting sugar. Life doesn't seem worth it if I can't eat things I like, as awful as that sounds. But good luck

I think all the sugar I took drove me into pre-diabetes.....
I wonder how much this effects my mind.... |

Yes the link between faulty nutrition and depression/anxiety is quite strong. At a minimum, your way of eating contributes to these conditions.

I was addicted to monster energy drinks. was drinking 4-5 a day. it was my way of being emotionally up all day. that all stopped when I ended wearing a heart monitor for a couple of days and I'm sure it was a contributor to my diabetes. now with the diabetes, I have almost the same ups and downs .

I heard that caffeine blocks a hormone required to make you feel calm. Caffeine is addictive. There's so much commercial food that is bad for us because they intend to make us addicted by all the sugar and weird 'E' numbers they add, but we cannot sue them since we are the consumer.

I too have binged on sugar and caffeine at times. A dr told me that I was "using the drugs" that I had. I've only had caffeine a few times in about 4 months. I've also eaten plenty of food with artificial sweeteners. When I'm depressed I don't have the motivation or desire to make something nutritious to eat but in the past month I've eaten very little processed food. I think I'd have to eat heathy (little sugar, salt, flour and dairy) for close to a year if I want to feel better. As well as depression I believe that my unhealthy diet contributes to my aches and pains. I will continue to try to eat better but I know that when I beat myself up I never feel better or motivated to feed myself healthy.

I am also addicted to sugar, mostly through chocolate. I try not to eat much. I know it will take time as I also attempt on improving my diet, though gradually.

I think you have to bite the bullet(unsweetened, of course) and just gradually give it up. I stopped having it in tea and coffee a long time ago and now,,ugh, couldn't drink it....too sweet. I gave up cakes and pastries about a year ago to lose weight and I've pretty much lost any cravings for sugary things. I still eat chocolate, but as much for the cocoa taste as the sweetness, but I can stop after a few bits. You do, eventually, lose the taste for sugar.

Cutting the excess of your sugar consumption might be a good choice. If you haven't try this method to improve your current condition, then I think its worth a try.

Well, little turtle. Have you ever been tested for diabetes? I cannot give up sugar either as it's like a drug. I feel flushed and get a headache if I have too much sugar. Is that a sign of diabetes?

I think i'd feel better if I could make myself either quit or at least cut back on sugar. maybe when this antidepressant helps, I'll be better at taking care of myself with good nutrition.

![]() Ask the Therapist: I’ve Become A Real-Life Cookie Monster (https://psychcentral.com/ask-the-the...ating-cookies/) I had to click it, it made me laugh (even though it was a serious issue). The person who needed help said, "For the last month I make and go through a batch of cookies in a minimum of one day." There have been times that I have eaten nearly a whole batch of cookies -- that is why cooks sometimes gain weight during the holidays I rarely bake cookies because of fear that I might eat to many. I always did like Cookie Monster! |
