I'm seeing a nutritionist currently and she says quite a lot. I've cut out sugar which she says exacerbates anxiety and depression and we are working on other things as well.

I read a lot about this and eating healthy is supposed to help depression.
I saw a naturopath and she told me that sugars cause inflammation and inflammation in the brain causes depression.

Eating healthy is hard for me. I eat healthy but I cannot cut out the sugary treats.

I find it interesting that not too many people want to talk seriously about eating
effecting the brain and mind.... I have been eating too much rich food lately and my weight has gone up 5 pounds...I am not happy about this at all....I check my weight every morning...I am eating too much rich food...ice cream and cheese ....this may effect my depression...but I am not sure about this...I need help here from the depression group...I keep hearing how important eating is for physical health...but how about depression...

so just recently I have gained 5 pounds.....I have been eating more junk like ice cream..
I weigh myself every morning....if I don't pay attention to my weight it will just keep going up....

I wonder if depression is linked to overweight...I am going to look at that

Depression is linked to anything that makes you feel bad about yourself, so yes, being overweight can make you depressed, especially when you find it hard to diet after that. By the same token, it's also linked to not doing well in your studies, having a poor paying job, or people who put you down. I dunno about how sugar can make you depressed, but I think it's OK to give yourself a little treat once in awhile.

What you eat is your fuel. It is what gives you energy and keeps your body functioning. You need to eat nutritious foods to feel your best. Not sugar.

Compare eating sugar to putting bad gasoline in your car. If you use bad gasoline, your car will run poorly and break down. Feed yourself poorly, and your health will deteriorate.

Google: sugar and depression. There is tons of information.

So, what are the foods that can help depression? Good if I don't have to cook it and also cheap. I think that's why so many of us are addicted to the wrong foods - you can just buy them off the shelf and give yourself a treat. Maybe if we can share some of these sources, we might eat more of them.

Sugar causes our bodies to release insulin, which in turn lowers our blood sugar, which creates a craving for more sugar. Lately I have been avoiding it and instead been eating lean protein and vegetables, salads with pumpkin seeds or a little cheese instead of dressing, and a little bit of almonds or peanuts between meals. Also protein powder mixed with milk for breakfast. I feel a lot better and have lost about 10 pounds too. Also I feel better if I take B complex (with extra B6-this was the doctor's suggestion) and vitamin D. You could try gradually changing your diet and see what works for you
