Long term depression often results in cognitive impairment like forgetfulness, trouble organizing thoughts, plus feeling physically drained off energy all the time. I know many bipolars who manage these symptoms (all of which i have) by taking stimulants like Ritalin, Adderall, strattera. just wondering if anyone here is taking these meds for this purpose.

I take Ritalin for energy. Best wishes.

I was originally diagnosed with MDD. My current diagnosis is BPII and I am going through depression.

I have used stimulants off and on for many years for MDD and am currently taking Adderall.

Stimulants can be helpful with stubborn depressions.

I tried Ritalin and Vyvanse each for very short times last year. Vyvanse was really good in ways but so unpredictable with making me sleepy for a bit (from the dopamine?) sometimes, or energetic at other times.
I also tried Dexedrine for a short spell, then have taken it a few other times. It was really great in that it made it possible to just push myself to do things even if I didn't want to, and made my thoughts more organized. It helped my moods a little in some ways, and I felt better because I was actually getting some stuff done, but it always seems to give me this strange sort of flatness after a few days that isn't quite like antidepressant numbness.
I've never stuck to any regularly though, which I still need to try. I definitely think they can be helpful. Good luck!

I take Ritalin for energy. Doesn't give me as much energy as I'd like though. But at least it's something. Doesn't help with my bad memory though.

I was taking Adderall for a bit. It helped enough to keep me going to work. I quit taking them after changing doctors. They're too expensive anyway.

Yes. 200 mg Provigil + 375 mg Effexor + 15 mg zyprexa. I wish I had started the provigil years ago. This particular psychiatrist is not afraid of stimulants.
