Have you heard that one? The unfortunate fellow who said this to me soon suffered another emotion of mine.
When I was a little kid, I was so quiet they thought there was something wrong with me. I have been proving them right for a long time, and now I am old and I don't have to talk to anybody any more. I talk to my dogs and they always agree because dogs are better than us. I like some people too.
It's good to be here.

I haven't heard that one, but I've heard things too ridiculous to repeat here

Welcome to pc

I once had a psychiatrist who told me I couldn't be depressed because I smiled.. I was very glad when she left!

Welcome to pc, I hope you get as much support here as I have found

I once saw a doctor who also told me I couldn't be depressed because I was a 14 year old who had a boyfriend at school and who smiled. He laughed and said 'There's nothing wrong with you!' . What a joke! Shame on him too, because I went on another 3 years in silence because I believed there couldn't be anything wrong with me!

P.s. Hi, I am a new member too

Many people I come across (even doctors) can't believe I have severe depression because I don't have that demeanor.
Thanks for this!

I can relate to this sooooo much. I never get much help or sympathy from others because I always "appear" so happy. They don't understand it's a coping mechanism.
