You've encountered much insensitivity, and from those who were supposed to support and help you.

Interestingly my psychiatrist suggested that being detached from others and from the environment (and thus I conclude, insensitive) could be a great advantage... (not sure if this qualifies it as a quality... In some sense perhaps)

What about the people who are too sensitive?

I disagree -- unless you're talking about a COMPLETE lack of sensitivity, people who constantly hurt and manipulate others without remorse.

But it's very hard to accomplish anything really meaningful in this world without encountering enemies or competitors or outright hatred. To quote Winston Churchill, "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." And highly sensitive people tend not to deal with enemies and hatred too well.

Let me put it this way: if I had one wish but it could only be for myself (no curing cancer or ending wars or anything) it would be that I could be like 95% less sensitive.

I lack empathy with certain things. Doesn't make me a bad person though.

Might be caused by my autism.

Like if people die on the news, I won't care because I didn't know them.

Same with celebrities and musicians, unless I liked them a lot.

My older sister gets mad though, because I don't care.

While it can be seen as a defect, it isn't necessarily a bad thing. Lacking empathy can be good too, especially so it is easier to distance yourself from certain things. So you don't get upset. (I don't mean completely lacking empathy, I mean lacking a little bit.)

Being too sensitive can have it's down sides too. You feel bad about everything when you're too sensitive.

I'm a mix of both too sensitive and lacking a little empathy.

Sounds weird I know.

I'm more too sensitive when something involves something with me or my family.

Friends too, if I knew them for long enough.
