I can only go by what I see here.

I see you make many excellent posts that are very thoughtful, eloquent and helpful.

I see you rapidly go between despondent and inspiring. You have such good words for others and struggle so hard to find peace for yourself. That's such a hard road and a constant fight.

Personally, I see that what you offer is uplifting and helpful and far from wrong. I believe you make a difference.

I actually find helping others helps me in a few ways.

First, it allows me to look at a problem (that I may be dealing with or have recently dealt with) at a non-personal view, meaning I am better able to detach myself from the situation and yet still remain with the problem in order to find a solution...one I may be able to use later myself
2. It allows me a distraction from my own worries
3. It draws in a supportive group of people to me.
4. It allows me to feel a sense of self worth.

Some would look upon that as selfish.

I see it as "sharing".

So when I have hard times, others come and share with me. That's what makes it work.

I don't see it as selfish either. It's an equal give and take, a symbiotic relationship. And, for the record, I appreciate the posts you make. It's clear that you take the time to read others' posts, and give sincere, helpful replies. I'm glad you're here.

I think those are good, healthy ways of looking at it. I suspect a lot of people do so, but maybe haven't articulated it as such.
