Apart from one day I've managed to stay in work during my current serious depression but it takes a a lot of energy and will power to keep going. Yesterday was nearly too much though, on my feet all day and very busy, when I got home I was so drained all my defences just collapsed. I was feeling almost suicidal and just sick inside, very shaky too, ended up taking myself to bed and wrapping myself up but couldn't even get to sleep for several hours.

I need some emergency coping strategies for that sort of situation - I am well equipped with tools that have been refined over years of living with repeated bouts of depression that enable me to keep going at work but clearly also need something that doesn't require as much energy/will to use when drained like that.

Sorry you feel this way. Work can be very tiring when you're depressed. What tools have you been using up to now?

Do you see a therapist or a psychiatrist? It's a shame you have to keep going through these bouts. What are you currently doing that helps you?

Mainly cognitive approaches, reframing, thought stopping, mindfulness, some yoga techniques. I also just put my own feelings aside to focus on the task ahead, taking things one at a time.

I would not see a psychiatrist, have seen therapists and counsellors previously, not currently but am waiting to be referred for one.

It doesn't help when I wake, like this morning, at 4 with my mind racing - not necessarily anxious (although there are things I could worry about but I am good at not going there - although to do that also takes energy) - just like the lights have been turned on full.
