Many years ago, when I was quite new to severe Depression and unrelenting suicidal thoughts, I sometimes wondered about the validity of the old debate between what is support and what is “enabling”.

Now I’m older, wiser, with many more battle scars (from this thing called “life”) I don’t feel there is any wisdom or validity in labelling any fellow human as “attention seeking” or whatever and “just letting them get on with it” . I find that attitude, which the Parental Units had, pretty sad. All of us here are warriors and deserve support and respect.

I’d rather be “guilty” of giving “too many” hugs than leave a fellow human to.. “cope alone”

Just my perspective, from a very neglectful family of origin and many painful experiences in this world..

Love,
Fuzzy

it's a really good perspective.

yes.. hugs are great, and you can never under estimate the power of a hug.

Fuzzybear, I completely understand how you feel. You can give as many hugs as you wish. We are here to support one another. Many of us ended up with mental issues because we had no emotional support in our lives. We need that love to stay strong.

Well put. I'm so glad you turned out like you, and not like them (except for your pain, which I would give to them).

I agree wholeheartedly. I saw a thread debating whether some hugs were enabling. I think that when most people post here they are really hurting and need a hug. I’m glad you feel the same.
