Does anyone else get sidelined with energy loss at the slightest bad news or upset?
Is there a way to overcome it and stay positive and on track? |

It’s easy for me to get off track with upsets or bad news. Two things that help sometimes are DBT and asking yourself if it will matter a year from now. Practicing mindfulness (being present) helps. As part of mindfulness, I do the five senses process as mentioned in the DBT book and review the distress tolerance chapter.
Sometimes it’s still hard not too get sidelined. I had several upsets yesterday and couldn’t overcome them so I went to bed early knowing I would feel better in the morning. |

What Jennifer said is good. I'm just adding that I (and I'm assuming most people with depression) get this too. You're not alone in that.
There's also practices like CBT and ACT, in addition to DBT. People have different likes and successes with various techniques, so you might want to look into several of them (although there is also a fair amount of overlap). You can also search for "calming" or "coping" methods for frustration and other similar emotions. |
