I feel like this world is too overwhelming for me to live in. I try to do my best but it doesn't seem to be enough. University is too hard for me, and I'm not sure what to do with my life.. I feel like I should just give up on life.

Aw MickeyCheeky

If your world is too overwhelming maybe you could find a way to shrink your world? Pay less attention to things out of your control?

I know personally when I have felt too overwhelmed/negative about life sometimes I had to detach myself from some outside influences that were making me feel too much pressure or making me compare myself too much to others.

I can try.. but most of my life is dictated by the choices I make. So it's difficult..

Maybe tell them you need to take things slower (take less classes at a time)? Or consider doing something else such as a job if you can find one? If you find something you want to do then at that point, you have to be assertive. Not feeling in control of our lives causes most people to feel extremely depressed.

I would advise you not to give up. You're young and there is time to figure things out, so just take your time. Everything doesn't have to be crystal clear right now. If things feel overwhelming, reach out to people who can help lighten the load. As a student, you have resources available to you to help you nagivate these waters and many people, myself included, know how scary the waters can appear when you feel unsure. You are not doing this alone. Don't be afraid to ask for help or slow down and take a break when things feel heavy. Try to work at your own pace, not the pace you feel you should be working at compared to others around you. Hope this helps.

Mickey,
You have been there for me n so many others. I understand the feeling of being overwhelmed. Do you think something in your personal life is stressing you too much atm to concentrate well on university things? If so do you think taking a break for a semester may help? Maybe its just the major you are studying that doesn't "fit" well for you - perhaps changing majors would help? Don't give up though even if you decide to quit university, life has a way of working out. I never went to college but I survived. I am not the only one with that story either. Sure it's a bit harder, but its do-able. You do what's best for you. Don't worry about the rest of the world. Choose the major you want. Take the break if you need. Stop altogether if you want. To out more with friends if you like or just go out even by yourself if you like. The point is - enjoy your life n make future plans so you can enjoy it to the best of your ability while making a living. Life doesn't have to be all about stress. Put in some carefree time too.

Like I said - this is your life. Your parents don't have to live it. Are they the ones that will be miserable the rest of your life even after they pass on if you choose a career you don't like? No.

Do what's right for you.

Hi,
I just wanted to say that I hear what you are saying, and feel this way myself nearly all of the time lately. I appreciate what others have said and glad that these ideas resonate with you. However I also feel it important and helpful to acknowledge these feelings of being so overwhelmed and confused that it seems difficult to go on. I know that sometimes that mutual acknowledgement is all I'm really looking for. --cs
