I believe this to be a problem. I’m always setting standards for myself that are too high, whether it’s playing my guitar or video games or exercise. It just stresses me out. They’re supposed to be things that relieve stress but it ends up making things worse.
Can anyone relate to this? Thank you all for replying to me in the past. It means a lot. |

Thank you. I do get things done when I put my mind into it. It’s just that some things take a lot of time and patience. Looking back I’ve made a lot of progress especially as a guitar player, but I wish I could be happy about what I’ve already done

Have you thought about the possibility that perhaps this is tied to your self worth? I’ve noticed in myself that at times when I’ve felt low (re:self esteem) those are the times when I have the most perfectionist tendencies. It’s like I am trying to compensate for how I’m feeling inside and I have to be perfect to do that. Like...being perfect in one area makes me feel better about how UN-perfect I may feel I am in general. So now, when I feel those perfectionism tendencies creeping in, I take a hard look at myself and see where there’s unhappiness or feelings of insecurity in my life. Just a thought ![]() |

Sometimes it's society itself that demands perfection, and anything lower is considered worthless; but know that this isn't true at all.

Thank you. If I could just shut off what other people think and all that, I wonder how different my life would be by now
