Good Day,

I've taken Zoloft for years for depression. It has helped a lot. I've had an experience late last year and early this year. From December to February, I've been physically ill with a sever cold and/or bronchitis and/or a mild version of the flu (had flu shot last year and didn't have any fever while ill from Dec to Feb.). I felt very ill at times during those months and went to emergency care and the regular doctor a few times. I got better in March of this year.

Something odd has happened since I got over my physical illness: I've been feeling down and depressed. Could the physical illnesses described caused some depression after I got better physically?

FWIW, I caught another cold a several days ago and have a sore throat.

Thanks.
Hugs from:

Well... I don't really know the answer to this. My intuition would tell me that yes it's certainly possible having been ill, especially for as long as you were, could result in your feeling down & depressed. Chances are being ill for that long probably drained a fair amount of your "resources", so to speak. I know just when I don't sleep well for even a night or two (which is a common occurrence for me) I become noticeably more down & depressed as well as more anxious & argumentative too. But that's all just my personal, non-professional opinion on the subject. (Please don't take it to the bank, as we used to say.) I'm sorry to hear you've now caught another cold. Hopefully this one won't hang on for three months! I wish you well...

I’ve read some articles about the flu causing temporary depression even in people who have never experienced depression. Being sick a lot cancertainly mess with our heads also.
