I've noticed it more than ever lately that no one listens to a word I say. I'm not really talking about 'help' talk (like for depression,etc)... I'm talking about everyday conversations. The minute I start talking I notice people's eyes glaze over and I know they've drifted off in their own world. I know they haven't heard me at all because usually I'll just stop talking and they'll carry on with their own things like I'm invisible. Sometimes I'll humor myself and throw in phrases like, "I climbed Mount Everest today" and no one notices. I've mentioned it to people and they insist it's not true and that they do listen. Oh well. I guess I don't have anything that interesting to talk about anyways. Just thought I'd vent about this.

i have felt that feeling before myself. not very reassuring that people care or think what you have to say is important. leaves a very lonely and empty feeling inside of us.

just know you aren't invisible here. we are listening.

I know that when that happens it makes me feel very lonely and sad. I am here and I do hear you.

my mum always used to talk over me or if I was sayng something she'd change the subject like she'd never been listening, actually, she still does it to me and my children, which is why I am having a reak from her......You are not invisible here. Even though sometimes it may feel that way......it is conditioning

Thanks everyone for replying... I can assure myself I'm not completely invisible now. Am I invisible? I'm glad I have PC so that I can vent about these types of things.

Oh, me too! People, including my husband, tend to talk right over me or interrupt me. It hurts. My husband has even fallen asleep on me once or twice!

You're not completely invisible! Nope - not here!

I know how it is...
It's hard to be ignored, but I've learned ways that people are more inclined to talk. I've learned that texting someone with the phrase "Sex me up" generally gets more replies than "Talk to me," being sarcastic obviously. Am I invisible?
And dramatization helps. So does saying your conclusion first. Like, "My mom's afraid of flowers."
Then people's curiousity gets the best of them. Am I invisible?
