I'm worried about my husband, he's been down lately. Ive told him that he should consider talking to someone. Iv'e tried to talk to him about what's bothering him but he feels embarrassed. Which is odd because he knows that I of all people should understand him, not only as his wife but as a person suffering from depression. I wonder, can a person be depressed for a time but not be considered clinically depressed? I feel that yes that can be the case. It's scary to watch the one you love struggle. Especially when you know just how dangerous depression can be. What should I do?

Maybe he just needs to get back up and thought he needs time out or burnout becomes worse.
If he is isolating himself and Umm drinking? It can only be dealt with one way. The hard way. Hope you get the help to help him |

Here are links to some articles, from PsychCentral's archives, on the subject of how to help someone who is struggling with depression or other mental illness:
https://psychcentral.com/blog/11-way...-denial/?all=1 https://psychcentral.com/lib/helping...ression/?all=1 https://psychcentral.com/blog/how-to...essional-help/ https://psychcentral.com/lib/how-can...hos-depressed/ There is also a book I have seen recommended as a "must read", in one of PsychCentral's "Ask The Therapist" columns, for family members of people who have a mental illness but who are not willing to seek treatment. It is titled: I'm Not Sick, I Don't Need Help. (I believe it is available for purchase on Amazon.) Here's a link to a review of the book: A review of "I'm not sick, I don't need help!" - Friends for Mental Health I wish you both well... ![]()

Here's a link to a video, from PsychCentral's archives, I just happened to stumble onto for the first time this evening. It is on the subject of how to get a loved one to go to therapy. I haven't watched the video. So I can't vouch for it. But when I saw the listing come up, it reminded me of your post:
