So, in the las month or so my family has been telling me that I may be depressed but in a joke mode... In the last couple of days Iīve been feeling so down, so sad, I canīt explain, I even cried in the bathroom of the school today. Think I may need help but I donīt know how to tell my family how I feel. This is just a mess.

What can I do?

Hello SweetBalloon14,

Welcome to PC.

I am sorry you've been feeling so down. Do you have a school guidance counselor or a school counseling service you can contact? I cannot tell your age. Keep posting here!

I hope you find the information and the support you may be seeking.

Hello SweetBalloon: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

I'm sorry you're feeling so down. It's difficult for me to tell you how to tell your family how you're feeling. I presume you're concerned they still won't take you seriously. You mentioned being in school. Is there a school counselor you could talk with? Another option might be to give one family member something (a book or an article from the internet) to read on the subject of depression as a way of starting the conversation. Perhaps give it first to the family member you feel is likely to be the most concerned. Then they can help you to talk to other family members.

Another option might be to sit down, again with the particular family member you feel may be the most concerned & the most likely to help, & watch a video on the subject of depression. There are lots of possibilities on YouTube. Family therapist, Kati Morton, has lots of mental-health-related videos on her YouTube channel... including videos on depression. Here are links to Kati's YouTube channel as well as to two of her videos on the subject of depression:

https://www.youtube.com/user/KatiMorton

Also... here are links to two "Ask The Therapist" columns, from PsychCentral's archives, where young persons wrote in asking how to tell their parents about their depression. Perhaps the replies the therapist wrote will be of some help:

https://psychcentral.com/ask-the-the...-im-depressed/

https://psychcentral.com/ask-the-the...ocial-anxiety/

And lastly, here's a link to an article, also from PsychCentral's archives, on the subject of how to write a letter to a loved one telling them about your depression:

https://psychcentral.com/blog/letter...hen-depressed/

Hopefully, with the help of some of this information, you'll be able to get the help you need. And, in the meantime, please keep posting here on PC. It can help too. If you are a teenager, one forum, here on PC, that may be of interest to you would be the Teens' Lounge. Here's a link to that forum:

https://forums.psychcentral.com/teens-lounge/

My bests wishes to you...
