How do you know when you are lonely?
I feel I have some kind of an invisible psychological burden. Is it normal for a child to have eczema and have clumps of hair fall out? The doctor said it was due to stress, but I could not name a single thing that was stressing me out. After each class period, there were handfuls of hair on the ground by my chair. I tried to put my hair in my backpack. I was never embarrassed for some reason because I could always detach from my body, but now I am. I am finally conscious of my body, and it is very scarred and ugly. My head hair is just fine now but last night I spent an hour excising ingrown hairs in my leg and cutting. Honestly, I don't know what's going on. I'm fine, but also not. I guess I am just super detached all the time. Otherwise I think I would be so lonely. I cannot remember much of my child due to this detached feeling, but what I do remember makes me feel very very lonely. |

I'm sorry to hear this emptynightmare. I wonder if there is some trauma that you're not remembering from your childhood. I have heard that sometimes when a trauma happens, people can block it from their minds.

I don't get generally lonely any more. I only get lonely for specific people, and very few of them. I understand the concept, and have been lonely, so I can empathize, but I don't feel it myself much. Wonder which is worse? I am sorry you are lonely.

98% there wasn’t significant trauma. I think just day to day life was difficult so I blocked it out. I feel like ****. But hey tomorrow’s another day...
I tried to do a loving kindness meditation this morning and ended up crying, it’s just hard. I feel alone and stuff I guess. I remember I was ignored a lot when I was a kid. |

Well, to answer the question, I know I'm lonely when I begin to miss having someone around - generally it's a specific person, but I can also feel general loneliness by not having someone close to talk to (even if I do have casual people to talk to). For me I need to feel close to one or two people, I don't need (or want) a bunch of people around me who don't really care or know much about me.

I feel lonely often. It's like a physical hurt in my chest or stomach. I really hate it and just try to distract myself.
