I talked to my friend today (via text) about how depressed I've been. I told her how I've been not wanting to get out of bed every day and how I've been crying every day and feeling so sad. I told her how I see my Pdoc in 14 days and how I might need a med change. My friend was empathetic and asked what she could do (really there's nothing that anyone can do) but it was nice that she asked. I feel weird and vulnerable now though. Like maybe I shouldn't have admitted how bad I am feeling. Especially because there's nothing that she can do about it.

It's always nice to have someone who you can talk to, even if that's all she can really do to help. I'm glad you reached out to her and were able to find she is empathetic.

It might feel weird or uncomfortable, but it can also be freeing to be able to share how you're feeling with someone you know . . . or even someone you don't (like at support groups or therapy groups). It can also be a brave thing for some who are really uncomfortable sharing about their depression.

Be encouraged that you did a positive thing in sharing and receiving sympathy/empathy from another person. Maybe this person will be an ongoing support for you when you need it.
