I have always been told by my parents to respect others especially my elders. It became increasingly difficult for me to do this since I lost most all trust in almost all adults because of what happened to me. I have gradually worked through those issues and even though I still stand by speaking from my heart and telling it the way I feel from the bottom of my heart and if I feel something is wrong, I still try to respect the person while maybe not the action if that makes any sense at all. One thing I don't want to come across as is some bratty kid who doesn't look up to the knowledge of her elders.
