About a month ago, I discovered that I can get paid to play games with people. I put up my information and bought business insurance, which was recommended. I let my ads run for a couple of days and then I took them down. I got stressed out and worried. I was depressed and didn't think I could handle it. Gaming is fun for me, so why can't I just think of it as gaming? I'm worried about making a good impression and getting good reviews. If my services don't do well, I'll really be depressed. I guess I can think, "What's the worst that can happen?" I'll just have a low score.
Not sure what I should do. I'm putting too much pressure on myself, I think. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

@Deilla
That sounds like a fun job! If it is something you enjoy, something you really want to do, and something that can help you make money, then it sounds like a great idea. Any decision we make in life comes with risks - the risks will always vary from least to greatest. In this case, it sounds like you're prepared for the risks involved, including potentially negative reviews. Like you suggested, the worst that can happen is poor reviews, which you can use to improve your gaming services and try, try again, until you find something that a lot of people are interested in. That's the nature of business, not really a reflection of who you are as a person. We try in one area, and if that doesn't work for us or for others, we continue to try in a new direction. You can also ask for mentors to help you with this process - mentors, being, those who are in the same line of work that you intend to go in, but who are currently or were previously successful. Mentors can offer you tips specifically for the field that you're interested in, which can increase your success and confidence. Mentors can also be there to help you reflect on what worked, what didn't work, and what you can do to improve an area that didn't work too well. Mentors are also your cheerleaders and helpers in a specific area. Good mentors will meet with you as needed, within limits, such as once ever week or two, or even as little as once a month or once a quarter (hence, the as needed). Good mentors will allow you to communicate via various platforms, and will discuss their expectations and allow you to discuss your expectations repeatedly, not just in the beginning, since mentoring relationships change and grow over time. Good mentors serve as life coaches, and they can help you develop both personally and professionally. You need not tell them anything about your mental illnesses, but you can describe your fears of bad reviews, which they can help you with. Apart from mentors, your therapist or other treatment teams can also help you figure out what psychological and physiological supports you will need to succeed in this line of work, such as work-life balance, telling yourself affirmations, eating healthy meals to keep your energy levels up, taking certain medications that will relieve physical or psychological symptoms while you're working. I hope these suggestions help. Also, go for it! See where this leads you! Who knows, you might find that this is a career starter, and you might build from this by building bigger dreams. Please keep us posted! This sounds really interesting! ![]() |

Sure... on Fiverr.com you can become a freelancer. There's a section for gaming where people sell their services for all kinds of games. Everything business wise is handled through Fiverr. You just have to fill the orders or provide the service.

@lillib thank you! You have some great advice. I did think about asking some others how certain aspects of the service work out. Maybe I can select someone who is quite successful but doesn't compete with me.

Oh yeah, that's right, the whole competition thing. Okay, that's wise thinking on your part. Maybe from someone not in the same business then, but someone who understands how to make a service or product successful, or who understands marketing. Hmm... I hope that your business takes off! ![]() |

I decided this morning that I would put my ads (gigs) back up on Fiverr. I am ready to do business. Now I'm just waiting for the orders to come in. I'll take it one step at a time. I'm telling myself it will be fun. And it will be an awesome way to meet new people.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I need to build/buy another gaming pc, but I'll definitely take a look when I do.

I'm not sure exactly why I gave up but after a few days with no response, I took down my gigs. Other people seem to be doing well but those are on console and RPG games mostly. I play MMO's. One thing I noticed is that I felt extra stress knowing I had to keep checking for orders. I don't want that in my life. Oh well. I'm trying to sell images at the moment on Shutter Stock. Maybe I'll just focus all my energy on that. Yea... I think that is best.
