Is it possible to have a chronic mental breakdown? For awhile ive been feeling like I have small mental breakdowns. Like im losing a piece of my mental stability everytime. I feel like I'm losing it. I quit my job. Stay to myself. My depression is in full swing. I'm feeling pretty lost.

The best way to stay mentally healthy is to stay positive!!
Self-introspection is very important.

Four years prior to a major mental breakdown, I begin experiencing more anxiety/unhappiness/sleeplessness/etc than normal. There was stress at home and work. Additionally, I hadn't examined what part of that anxiety/etc was my own projection/discomfort verses where I needed to establish good boundaries or leave some of the things that were just not good for me. I went to a psychiatrist for the first time four years prior to my major breakdown. The medication did ease some of the symptoms but because I did not have good insight into what was going on (a good therapist can help as well as viewing posts, articles and videos), when I discontinued my medication due to unemployment, I had a major breakdown that nearly killed me. These small mental breakdowns are an indication that you need to assess what is going wrong. It sounds like your crisis is not just a little one because it has affected your ability to work and feel happy and connected. Hopefully, there are some good resources in you community that can help you. Good luck with this.

Are you able to see a therapist? I think it’s possible for our mental health to deteriorate just like our physical health can deteriorate. It can happen without us even realizing it. I think it’s possible to pull ourselves out of it. I don’t think of it as a chronic breakdown so much as a chronic issue that needs to be managed.

The main things my 1st therapist did were getting me to journal which helped me examine my thoughts. Also, I had an unexpected reaction within when I discussed a trauma that occurred in college that I had kept to myself. The reaction that discussion caused caused me to feel a lot of confusion about the whole therapy process which led me to PC. I think I learned the most here! It took time to mull over it all. My major breakdown happened more than 4 years ago. Things have gotten a lot better for me. They can for your too!
