Ever (Foreign Flag) by Team Sleep. Touchingly sad. Beautiful.

Alice in Chains "Nutshell"
It's not just the lyrics that make it sad, it's the music, the tone, and the fact that the singer died from a prolonged seclusion immersed in addiction. We chase misprinted lies We face the path of time And yet I fight, and yet I fight This battle all alone No one to cry to No place to call home Ooh Ooh-ooh Ooh Ooh-ooh My gift of self is raped My privacy is raked And yet I find, and yet I find Repeating in my head If I can't be my own I'd feel better dead Ooh Ooh-ooh Ooh Ooh-ooh |

Bohemian Rhapsody.
Mamaaa, Just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, Now he's dead Mamaaa, life had just begun, But now I've gone and thrown it all away Mama, oooh, Didn't mean to make you cry, If I'm not back again this time tomorrow, Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters __________________ Forget the night...come live with us in forests of azure - Jim Morrison |

Eleanor Rigby comes immediately to mind.
Has a different tinge of emotion but Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphey struck me as a very sad song when I was a youngster. No shortage of sad songs out there. We need them I think. |

Mournful melody arrangement too. Instrumentals can have a profound effect for me as well. This one is an example.
So many tunes overall. Sad stuff accounts for many of my favorite songs. Knockin' on Heaven's Door is giving me goosebumps just typing it. Ooyah. Emotion can be a good hurt sometimes. |

Dogs by Pink Floyd. The lyrics and melodies in that thing have always struck me. The solo guitar notes set a tone that drips melancholy.
