Hi everybody,
I’d like to state first of all that this isn’t for me. I’m asking about how to handle my father. He’s been in a deep depression since the pandemic began and it’s only gotten worse in the last six months. He tried some antidepressants and he didn’t like them although my mother and I felt he was better on them. He “doesn’t like to take pills” yet he puts nicotine in his mouth and smokes pot. He’s basically just refusing to help himself at this point and he’s making comments about harming himself to my mother and I. My mom told me he was talking about killing himself in his sleep last night. How do I handle this? Can I call the cops and make him go to emergency? He refuses to go. I’m sorry if this post sounds cold but he’s honestly tearing us all apart. I feel as if he’s making my depression come back after a couple years of semi wellness. He’s nasty and mean recently. |

Dear Vilatus,
What a heartbreaking situation. Not having a legal background and not knowing the laws of your country, state, county and city, I do not think I can be helpful to you. Hopefully more knowledgeable and experienced people here will see your post and have really good advice for you. Do you think it would be helpful to contact an attorney about what legal options are available to you? The situation must be so stressful and distressing to you and your mother. My heart goes out to you. Sincerely yours, Yao Wen |

I’m in Michigan in the United States. I’m not sure if it would be, thankfully we were able to force my father to visit the doctor yesterday and it seems to possibly have been a wake up call. But we’ll see. I appreciate your reply, thank you so much. |
