Can't say I'm sad to see it go

such a **** year with so little accomplished

usually I'd say I hope next year will be better, but I say that every year and the following year is worse- so maybe good year wishes is a curse or something. I don't know

2023 was one of the worst years I ever had. There were a lot of disappointments, setbacks, and takeaways. The takeaways I had didn't make sense to me. This was a year that troubles came to find me and I never looked or asked for it. I hope next year will be better.

I could have written this, word for word. And American culture hypes up a "new" year like that guarantees things can only get better. I also stopped making New Year's Resolutions, I never keep them. If they called it "Old Year's Celebrations" I might be more receptive, since it's supposed to be about surviving the old year. And I did. It's all I do---survive each year.

Already dreading all the New Year's greetings I'm going to get, I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow. I hope my favorite cashier is working, she hates the holidays too.

I think a lot of people have stopped hoping the next year will be better, especially after the last few years. A lot of false hope.
