How fast did your depression come on.? I've had symptoms for about 3 months......maybe a bit longer. But in the last week things just got horrid.......I went from mildly depressed to near suicidal.

I thought things like these were supposed to be gradual.

Has anything happened in your life recently - like a trauma, loss of loved one, job change, even some kind of GOOD change? That could trigger it to come on a lot faster.

As far as me personally...I've had depression off & on since childhood. But yes, there are times that it does seem to come on very suddenly, and other times it just keeps buildng and building until I break.

Are you getting any help yet?

Nothing major except I had mono in November......a very bad case.

I have gotten help and start effexor today.

Looking from the outside in I can see how I am.....definately needed help.

I just don't understand why this suddenly happened to me. I've always been extremely happy and content.

It does sound like some kind of chemical shift has occurred, possibly due to your illness or some event that you're not yet connecting it to. If I were you, since it came on quickly, I would be hopeful that it will get better quickly. I think it is more common for it to come on slowly. For me personally, it has been off and on for years, with a couple of major life events that made it much worse for a while.
