I am f'in doomed at work. in trouble, and wondering - why bother? I keep screwing up, and my screwups keep getting worse and worse and p*ssing off higher and higher-ups. I am struggling with my physical health, which is consuming most of my time and thoughts, and the depression has come and gone with it, but I've had days lately where getting out of bed was more trouble than it seemed worth, and that hasn't happened for a while.

Saw pdoc this morning and asked to go off the Effexor, which I've been on for a billion years (well, at least 8, maybe 9). We are now trying something else in the hopes of jump-starting things before they go too much farther downhill. But I'm just doomed, because my bosses are sick of hearing about my problems as an excuse for why I'm f'ing up my job, and I don't handle extreme criticism well at all and am beginning to wonder more and more seriously if I belong in this position, or this industry even, at all.

Somebody give me permission to go home and curl up under the covers and hide till it gets better....which right now doesn't feel like will be ever. in trouble, and wondering - why bother?

Candy

No curling up under the covers, doesn't help. I know you probably can't hear it but the higher ups probably aren't as unhappy as you feel/see they are because of your depression and concerns about other things. I've mistaken concern for pissed too many times so you'd think I'd know the difference; sure they wish you'd do stuff differently but they're also hoping you will! If they wanted to get rid of you, if you're job were that "easy" to fill, they would have done it by now?

That you have other things going on in your life; don't pick a fight with what you enjoy doing and are normally good at! It can work out.

They can fill my job with a 22-year-old new grad in good health, who will both have more energy and be less of a drag on the group health insurance. I fully expect that day to come.

Depression sucks. So do ADs... actually, I start Effexor tomorrow, oddly enough.

Hmmm... well, I'd give you permission to go home and crawl under the covers (which kinda feels like what I want to do to) ... but then that would probably wind up being worse for you.

I know this probably isn't the best option, but can you find a less stressful job elsewhere?

Love ya, always. in trouble, and wondering - why bother?

Why bother?

You are an amazing individual overcoming difficulties - that's why I would bother.

It's always dark before it's calm, right?

Ride it out, and it will be alright. Your life will supply the answers. Look within.

peace and comfort,
nightbird
