I want to phone up my doctors so they can see if I have depression... I told my parents a while ago but they said I'd grow out of it and now it's time I took things into my own hands. But... I don't know if I can phone them.
I want to and all, but I'd be embarassed if they turned me away. I'm just too nervous, because I'm not sure they let kids my age go into the practices alone, or without a guardian.

In the US you can seek help on your own at 18. Is their a school counselor you can talk to? I had to do that.
Hugs.

Hello Walk_Alone --

I support you in your decision. If you believe that you are too young to get an appointment with a physician on your own, work through your school counselors, or even a favorite teacher. If you have any relative you trust -- an aunt, uncle, grandmother, cousin -- who might understand and help, that is another route.

You might also find help at a church, even a church that you don't personally attend. Sometimes churches run youth groups and activities where you might find an adult to help you.

Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs, as well as youth counseling centers are other places that you might try to get help.

You are very, very brave to tackle this challenging task at a young age. Brava for you!

Hello Walk-Alone, here in the U.S. my kids doc has always welcomed them to come in by themselves and share their concerns. I think they really repect a kids right to privacy here where I am. I wouldn't hurt to call and make appoint. Are you in U.S.? Do you see a pediatrician?

don't ever stop reaching out. bravery and the will to survive has no age limits. even if your doc can't help, they can surely tell you what other resources are available. you are articulate no matter what your age and i'm so impressed by your determination to take care of yourself...lots of "adults" lack that insight. you're a survivor..i can tell - and never be embarrassed - it's a waste of time..love grace

I'm in the UK, but I'm not sure what the age thingy is here. I think it's 16, or 18. I'm only 14 (almost 15, yay) so I still have a few years. Thankyou everyone for helping me out. I'm so glad that I joined this forum.. thing. I don't actually know proper terms for things at the moment, but I'm learning I want to phone... Anyway. *wanders off to do PE homework*

*hugs everyone randomly*

your parents would get in trouble if they're stopping you from getting help for ANYTHING...its a nanny state

Hi Walkalone,

I think you should call them and let them know how you are feeling. Therapists always want to know. They will be happy to recieve a little message from you!

Hi, Walk Alone, I am from UK too and can feel for you - at age 14 I knew I was depressed (or something !). No-one understood me, but now I am able to reach out at age 38 ! I want to phone...

You are brave to have reached out to us and my suggestion to you is - are there any places that offer youth counselling and support, I know where I live there is, so maybe there is where you are ?

It could be worth ringing your GP surgery and just inquiring if you can make an app alone ? I know that could be quite nervewracking, but hope you manage to do it.

I can relate to being 'socially retarded' ! I don't know your own experiences of that but if they're anything like mine - its agony. Hope you will post again and take care.......Poppet
