How do you differentiate between the two when someone is experiencing depression??

that's hard. i guess you have to look at your feelings behind it... if you're experiencing apathy then it's probably not laziness. if you have the energy for it but just want to do other things instead, then maybe it's laziness.

Thanks Taonuviel for the way you put your answer. I have been struggling with this question myself. I w a n t to get things done and accomplished, even just getting started would be good. You bring up a valid point on this, if I don't have the energy to do anything else than it might not be laziness and I don't have to be so hard on myself.
