I've been researching different treatments for depression because sooner or later I will have to switch from Prozac to something else, as I am building up a tolerance to it. This morning at around five I got up to eat breakfast and take my medication, however I made a mistake and grabbed the wrong bottle. Instead of taking 60 mg of Prozac I took 40mg of Adderall, my brother's ADHD prescription. About twenty minutes after taking it I felt the best I have ever felt in my life, and went through my day the happiest I have been in a long time, my thoughts were clear and coherent, I was focused more on my school work than I was on my other issues, such as my social life, and I was not groggy or tired like I usually am even after sleeping for nine hours. Is it possible that Adderall can be prescribed as an antidepressant instead of an AHDH treatment? Yes, I know the risks of taking Adderall due to the fact that it is a low dose Anphetamine, however, at this point I am willing to risk a dependency on prescriptions being as I am already dependant on Prozac. Hopefully someone will be able to help me. Some background info on me is I am a 17 year old Male six feet one inch, 156lbs, in good health, my only allergy is Bactrum, the antibiotic. I have been taking prozac for two years and progressed from 10mg to 60mg within that time period. The first three dose changes were in increments of 10, but slowly i began to need more and more at more frequent intervals. My last dose change was one month ago, and i was upped to 60mg. Thank you for your time.

Hello Raabdiabolus, it's nice to meet you, welcome to psych central.
I have never heard about adderall used as an antidepressant but I have a limited experience with meds, I think it would be worth talking to your doctor about it if it made you feel good. For now though I would stick to your meds until you see a doctor.

There is something called Vyvanse that is related in some way or another to the adderall/ritalin and even methamphetamine categories. Check out info on the web. Vyvanse. there's also more info in the meds forum on this website.

Love and hugs,
Tara
