I AM going to get this done.

I've put it off for years. I've expressly put it off for 18 months since I obtained the motorized (power) wheelchair that was my mom's.

I'm having a hitch put onto the back of my car tomorrow morning.
I haven't decided if I will tow a small trailer, or try and find a bumper carrier that will support a class II hitch. I will have all but the drop bar and lights put on tomorrow, and then once I am sure of what I have, I can shop for what's available.

The hitch mounted carrier, for a class II, is extremely difficult to find because so many aren't made to carry much weight, due to my car being a FWD.

I have found a site with a nice trailer kit, 40"x50" that would tow directly behind the car. It would work for the chair and any camp equipment too, should I get back into the outdoors.

I can buy the light and bar at home depot for much less than they will want to hook it up for me tomorrow, along with the hitch itself. (They want another $100 for the light and drop bar.)

But, I'm finally getting this part done. THEN I will make the next decision once I have the specs to it in writing in my hot little hands. At least I hope I will...

I did get the hitch ... but not the tow bar and ball. I'm just not sure that I can't put a ramplift carrier onto the back of the car instead of having to tow a small trailer. With the trailer I have to have a tow bar, ball, chains, light system and tag and title...plus you can only drive 45 mph... and believe me that makes a big difference when going up to Orlando (I would have to stop and get a room midway LOL, really!)

But the carrier onto the back has been advised against by a mobility vehicle expert here...saying that it's too much weight onto the back of a front wheel drive car. ??? I see plenty of them around town...but not out on the freeways, true.

Most people don't even know the payload of their vehicles. I bet if they did they would be outraged and the automobile industry would have to change. You can barely carry 4 people much less luggage too without going over the payload limits...even in the SUVs! It takes quite a bit to make the sales people find the payload. Ok. I say that because I happen to know the payload of my FWD car... and it's only 740 lbs! So I can't even carry 4 average sized people... with no luggage.

Between me and my dog, and luggage, we already hit just under 400 lbs. The hitch weighs 60 lbs I think... that's on the car now... sorry, I'm thinking out loud here ... and the motor chair weighs 180 lbs. So the carrier itself weighs about 50-75 lbs...and I'm nearly at peak without having anyone else in the car.

The carrier is another $600.
The trailer is $400 plus tag and title etc (and spare tires... and light kit and receiver and ball...)

I want the fold up ramp/carrier. Yep. Still a chunk of money. Maybe I'll do both ROFL then I will have a trailer to pull if I ever get back into camping... or take mom's clothes over to Tampa to my sister.

Sigh. Ok I DID get this part done though. I need to feel/think good stuff about that!

I' m finding I'm anxious to complete the project. I want to go ahead and order the rampcarrier thingy but now am a bit muddled in the thinking (stress/anxiety) to be sure I'm ordering the right one. Guess my pain/stress T will have to help read and select tomorrow when I see him? Sigh.

It is horribly complicated! My husband and I (mostly I :-) have been looking at cars, trailers, Class A RV's (buses), 5th wheels, etc. to see what, if anything, we want to do about coming down your way in February

We have a 10 year old RV but it's not a good fit for us anymore and my husband doesn't want to spend any "real" money. So I was driving myself crazy looking at what my cheap Ford Explorer could tow versus selling both cars and RV to get a better tow car (neither of our cars are quite right for both of us for long trips, etc.) or, recently, we were looking at the great big bus RV's and found a used one we really liked that had everything we wanted but is almost as expensive as our house so we then switched and looked at the 5th wheels which are less expensive and thought about trucks to tow it but the RV part didn't fit us as well as the bus. Sigh.

And I can't even get my husband to just sell both cars and the RV and buy a good, AWD vehicle that both of us like/would drive. We don't need both cars but his is most comfortable for him and mine is 4WD for the snow up here and I don't want to give that feature up.

I feel like I'm spinning my wheels, LOL. We still have $1,000 worth of repairs that the Explorer needs (new tires and some other major part but that we could put off a few months while we paid for the "must do" bulk of the work back in August). The car's not worth that magnitude of repairs but I'm not letting husband "win" and strand us with his worth-even-less luxury car that's useless in winter.

My brother bought his 5th wheel really cheap! But he's also a master mechanic, so even if it's something he can't do, they won't rip him off. Good wishes on that search.

Yeah, I priced adapted vans, something that has all I want/need? $75k ..for a van!!!!!!!
