So I might have lupus.

At least, my ANA came back positive. They want to wait a few months to try to confirm the diagnosis.

But it's hardly surprising. Two of my aunts have lupus; my mother and my grandmother have rheumatoid arthritis. I've had symptoms of lupus for a number of years (Raynaud's Syndrome) but lately I've been getting worse--losing hair, waking up in the middle of the night with muscle pain, incredible fatigue. Yet, no rash. Which is why, I believe, so many doctors assumed it was all stress.

But expecting it doesn't make it any less frightening.

I don't know what to think. I'm kind of in shock, actually. Are there any other lupus sufferers out there who could offer some advice? Anyone that could offer some support? Thanks...

Ugh Hope not. But here's just one link to some ways to treat it "naturally." I have issues with medications, especially allergies and side effects to boot, so I always go homeopathic if I can. http://www.ehow.com/how_5228598_trea...omeopathy.html

I would have to try and persuade you not to follow the homeopathic and alternative medicine route to treat this condition as none of these treatments have been proven to work beyond the placebo effect (The tendency of any medication or treatment, even an inert or ineffective one, to exhibit results simply because the recipient believes that it will work). Your doctor will know the best and most effective way to treat this as they heal people for a living and want you to get better not just to feel better.

If I really can't persuade you to not consider alternative medicine, please DO NOT stop taking any medication prescribed by your physician however much the alternative health practitioner insists as it will most likely make you very ill and perhaps make you worse than you were before. Please, please look at the evidence and do your own research, it is better to be informed than to take whatever anyone says as the truth. Be sceptical in your reasoning and ask medical professionals for help because they really do want to help you.

I hope you get better and can overcome this
