So I was diagnosed June 09. I haven't done anything to follow up with the diagnosis except got some vitamin levels run and gone gluten free. I finally went to the student health center and got a referral to a specialist. I have an appointment with the specialist in a week. I hope to find out that everything is going well. I'm proud of myself for being proactive (finally) about my health. I also need to get registered w/ Disability Services at my school. Hopefully the new doc will be willing to write the letter I will need. I still need to find out from the office exactly what I will need to have.

It sounds like you are taking the necessary steps to guide you. Your school should be helpful...most of them are these days. I am sorry if you have already said...and you don't have to tell me if you don't want to..but I am very curious what you were diagnosed with. Keep us posted and keep taking care of yourself

I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. It means that I can't eat wheat, rye, or barley because they make me very sick. It is hard because so many products have one (or more) of these in them, and even if they don't often they are cross contaminated with them during some point in the manufacturing process. It really sucks. I had to give up most of my favorite foods.
Thanks for this!

I went to the doctor. The appointment wasn't very helpful. I think I am going to have to have them write me another letter for school because the one they gave me doesn't really say anything. They were not very helpful. They gave me the same printout I got when I was diagnosed as a way of providing me with education. I felt like a number to them and that was really disappointing. They did do some blood work so that was good. I found out that my numbers are better, but I don't know if I should still worry about them being elevated or if this is normal for the amount of time I have been sick. Ugh, so little information.

(((googley))) That sounds very discouraging and I am sorry to hear it. Hopefully after you get used to the different kinds of food you eat you will become more used to them and start enjoying them more. As for the doctors appointment...they can definitley make you feel like a number instead of a real person. I was diagnosed a few months ago with upper and lower periphreal neuropathy (there are specific terms...but I can never remember them...hehe) and it took them forever to diagnose and treat me right, it seemed. I finally started bringing notes of my different systems and when they occured and what they specifically felt like. Also any questions I could think of I would write down. It seemed I would forget half of everything every time I went in. Anyway...my point is...maybe write these things down and ask them all when you go back. Best of luck and I hope it gets better for you

Hey googley,
Don't get discouraged. I have seen 4 different primary care Dr's before I found one that would listen, help, and has ideas. I have also been to a couple different specialists that didn't work out. Keep looking if you need too. At least you have a diagnosis already! That is a definate plus!

best,
mj
