I have been told that I have Muscular Dystrophy. Probably Myotonic Dystrophy. It is the beginning, as I am 16. I am not that sick right now, except for the occasional hardships. Though, I had worked at a campground for a season last year. They knew about my sickness, how could they not? With me coughing, and my odd limp. Well, I applied to start back up this year. They said that many people applied, older people. Plus, since I'm sick I should rest up and not work. So, even with the experience they turned me down because I am sick. My other job tried to lay me off for it too. ugh.....WELL>>>> how am i supposed to pay my car insurance? And my phone bill... ugh. I hate not being able to run, play, or hardly carry my books. I hate being in a wheelchair and having people stare at me when my legs aren't working. Most of the time I just take the pain, and walk. I want to seem as though I'm not deteriorating.

I don't know how to really answer this one but I am glad you found us in chat. I hope we can help you out there. All I can say is don't give up. Fight hard for what you want. I understand not being able to pay bills. Is there social services help that you can get?

Muscular Dystrophy isn't fun. I have known and helped many, w/daily tasks, who suffered severe effects of the disease. I've also known people who had less serious effects of the disease. It isn't ever easy. Different accomodations need to be made, depending upon the person.

For instance, I knew a lady who was a cop out on the streets. MD hit her, and she couldn't be out in the streets anymore. She was still a cop, but one stuck behind a desk. She wasn't very happy at all about the changes, but thankful things weren't too bad. It took some time & adjustment.

My point is that there are jobs out there for the disabled. You just need to think about different things. What are you physically and emotionally able to do? Various home improvement stores are really big on hiring disabled people ~ like Home Depot. Lots of employees scoot around in their wheelchairs, and work just as well as anyone else. Check out your local workforce center for the different job opportunities in your area.

Gentle hugs to you ~ I hope that this post helps you feel a little bit better.

Bless your sweet heart ! You sound like such a brave young woman. I'm so sorry you have been stricken with this horrible disease, but you sound like such an inspiration to others !!! You still want to work ~ you still want to get out there and fight!! This is wonderful. I'm proud of you !!! I have a feeling that we'll be hearing more from you. You really could inspire MANY people to stop whining about their woes, and just get up and get going!! God bless you dear ~ and please keep us updated on how you're doing. Take care. Hugs, Lee
