I have been having bouts of swollen and painful joints on and off for 4 years now. But it lasts too short for the diagnose of arthritis. Which is six weeks. Anyone has similar experiences?

my knee was like that until it became so severe I had to go to the ER. xrays showed arthritis but they can also do bloodwork to check for it.

Recently i had a toe that was so badly swollen and painful that i had to hop around. Haha. It was too painful to even limp. That lasted for only 2 weeks.

Who said 6 wks was too short for R-arthritis? Perhaps it could be osteoarthritis. That is JUST as painful. The osteo kind can disfigure the joints too -- it causes overgrowth of bone.
![]() I'm sorry you're in such pain. It sounds like you should see a specialist. Perhaps an Orthopedic surgeon. See if your doc will refer you to one. It's worth a shot. Best of luck and keep us posted, will you? Keeping you in my prayers. Hugs, Lee ![]()

I have arthritis, it can hurt for anything from a few hours to weeks. the pain can be there full time or off and on depending on the position my legs are put in and the frequency i take my pain meds.
my hands again vary, they can hurt for a very short time or days depending on what i have been doing and how much i use/rest them. in both my hands and knees, they all feel more painful in the evening. my knees really hurt in the morning when my carer stretches my legs to put my socks on. |

Should i see a rheumatologist or orthopedic?

it depends on the type of arthritis and whether it is active at the time of the blood test or not. blood tests will only show arthritis if inflamation is present at the time of the blood test. Xray will show dormant osteo arthritis, but i am not sure if it always shows dormant reactive arthritis.

I see an Osto doctor and, amazingly, it was a Neurologist that discovered I have Fibromyalgia. With Fibro, I've discovered that you don't always have swelling to have pain.
My Osto doctor is great. He is the one who actually told me I have RA,too. I know it was the wrong diagnosis, or maybe it's possible to have both (I don't know for sure, new to this Fibro diagnosis)? Anyway, keep searching until you get a diagnosis, no matter who you have to see. In the meantie, I"ll keep you in my prayers. Love & LIght Tammy |
