Or so I have been told. My MRI of my head shows some weird stuff and my cognitive issues are THERE and my hearing issues are THERE and my balance is.....well, you know....THERE. Yet both of the Neuro docs I've seen along with 2 PCP's (I switched once) tell me that perhaps I should see a Mental Professional. They say all my problems are from long term birth complications and that I've always had them and there's nothing that can be done. That I need help in acceptance.

Hello! I have NOT always had the cognitive issues nor the bad balance issues I have now. I have not always used a walker (a sporty red one ) because I'm afraid to walk long distances unaided. Yes, I have slight spastic CP but it hasn't stopped me from walking all over town....I don't drive due to visual stuff. They won't give me a true diagnosis so that I can begin the Disability process. Heck, my first Neuro doc stated that she would not consent to help because "all you would do is lay in bed all day and sleep."

I am so done with doctors right now and it's making me crazy skeptical. I'm becoming convinced that NO ONE can help me and if I had even more serious problems that it would be pointless to see a doctor here in our "rural area" (that's what insurance calls us even though I live in a college town in Central CA) because they would rather see you kick the bucket than lift a finger to help.

Yes, I am new here. I have acceptance issues. There is SOMETHING going on with me but no one wants to help. Oh, but they sure do want to over bill insurance and collect their fee.

Rant over.

((((Imaworrywart))))

I feel for you, truly do. I've certainly got my own health stuff, we'd fill a book, ranting.

I'm feeling more akin or more soft to the seeing a pdoc and therapist approach, than ever before. At least, I come away with a semblance of knowing my choices are thought out, logical and rational. Get to toss that back on the Neuro when need be...
Thanks for this!

I thought I had a brain tumor but it turned out to be MS. I was relived. Yes it suck that it is MS but I'd rather that then the alternative.

Hi Imaworrywart

My partner was the boss psychologist of a CP support agency for many years.

Her comment was that CP can (but need not) have neurological as well as physical consequences - her suggestion is to try to find a neurologist who knows about CP and get him/her to do a full investigation.

All the best.

Just an idea, if you're in central CA, you're a couple hours away from some of the best neurological hospitals in the country. UCLA comes to mind. How far away are you from LA? Do you have any way of getting any significant distance? Might give you a better chance of getting a true diagnosis.

Maybe you can look into telemed services for other specialists that are far from where you live. I wish you the best and you find answers/relief

So classic response to that "maybe it's all in your head"....well yes, doc, my brain is in my head and that's where the problems are.

If you are feeling catty, you could also say "did you miss that lesson in school?"
