I’ve had this issue with a very bad dry cough, runny & stuffy nose since May. I got on antibiotics & got a chest X-ray which turned out normal.

Anyways, an ear nose & throat specialist says that I have acid reflux & he prescribed me medication.

It helped ease up the coughing, but it’s still sporadic & comes in waves.

I need to change my diet & loose weight too. Has this cauded coughing issues for other people with this problem too?

Is this problem curable, temporary or permanent? I’d like to know as mych as possible about this.

What causes it besides poor diet, obesity & smoking? I don’t smoke btw. My husband smokes 2 packs a day though.

@jesyka I am sorry that you have a dry cough. There are many possible reasons for that.

If your husband is smoking in the house, some studies show that second hand smoke can be as bad as smoking yourself. For your health it would be better if he smokes outside or in a room that they have for a smoking room. @CANDC

Acid reflux could cause coughing, yes. I am not sure how eat throat doctor could diagnose it though. You need to see your primary physician or gastroenterology specialist and do endoscopy. Based on the results your doctor will discuss your treatment

We can’t really answer if your acid reflux is temporary or permanent and if it’s curable. It depends on your specific situation. We can’t provide these kind of answers. You ought to see a doctor and follow what they say.

Generally speaking two packs a day inside the house would cause massive second hand smoking consequences. It needs to stop. Not only it’s extremely dangerous and causing cancer, it causes such awful smell in your house. It penetrates everything

Yes, the reflux could be related to coughing. Did the doctor not suggest some sort of reflux medicine? There are over the counter options. ALso, look it up on the Internet. You can find all sorts of helpful suggestions. I've struggled with reflux for a long time--even having surgery for it. But now I watch what I eat, seeing what's most likely to cause it, etc. (The surgery "came undone.")

I just thought that if someone else had this issue that they could answer a few questions. I’ll go see more specialists soon. This cough won’t go away completely. It’s scaring me. He won’t stop smoking.

Yes, he prescribed medication. Did your coughing subside after taking medication? The meds suotess it temporarily, but the cough still comes & goes.

I am watching what I eat now too.

I understand but many of your questions only your doctor could answer based on your specific diagnosis. Some conditions are chronic and some aren’t. Even if we answer these questions, they’d not be helpful as it might not match your exact condition and in fact could be harmful or misleading for you

So sorry, we're doing the best we can. I have to say coughing hasn't been an issue for me. Maybe someone will come along who does have this problem as well.
