I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post. Sorry if its not, but I was wondering. When I have allot of pain inside or allot of issues, I zone out. I can't read, I can't write, i cant study. The most I can do is to look at websites, or stare blankly at the tv for hours, or curl up for a nap. What can I do. I'm in grad school and not studying is not an option.

Get a study partner. I have similar issues... not normally, but for some reason, right now I do. Having a study partner helps me immensely.

I can't really answer this one. I don't go to college or any classes. In H.S. I had a hard time 'cos I couldn't focus. Hard to when you have others looking out & wanting 'time'.
A study group/ partner would probably do you some good. Keep you focused. That is the short term. Long term is to figure out why you zone out like this & how to deal w/ it so you aren't. Keep us updated. Love, RhysMadison |

My shrink thinks I'm just burned out, which is why I'm uncharacteristically slacking off these days.

I would agree with all said above. I would also recommend frequent breaks and time to regroup.
Hope you find a solution. Take care. place

EV,
I can SOOOOOO relate to what you're saying. I have a lot of things I do, but my number one thing is VERY frequent breaks in which I do something entirely different (and numbing) like watching 5 minutes of tv or something. I don't know if you saw the two-part article I wrote on coping with dissociation, but it might help you. It includes most of the things that help me: http://psychcentral.com/newsletter/i...t_coping_a.htm http://psychcentral.com/newsletter/i...t_coping_b.htm Good luck, hon. I feel your pain!!!! (Having the same problem today lol) Angela

I went to Sylvan Learning Center, and they told me to take a three minute break every fifteen minutes because during that time the information you've just studied will "sink in" to your memory.

In class I chew hard candies to stay connected.
At home I drink teas and keep snacks handy and I get up and walk around a bit when I feel myself drifting away from my work. |
