…..This quote was written with adults in mind but think of what a child must go through during early childhood abuse. If an adult is not able to have the fortitude to survive untold abuse not to tell secretes. How can you expect a child to survive the same treatment giving under different circumstance? That is why adult survivors of abuse have so many types of personality disorders. This is how children learned how to endure and survive that which few adults could have ever dreamed of surviving.
….. I have Dissociate individual Disorder/Multiple Personality Disorder that is caused from the need to separate one self from a situation that a child’s mind is unable to cope with. To tell a person that has DID/MPD that their alters are only a figment of there imagination you are also telling that person that the abuse that they suffered was also a figment of their imagination. By doing this you are telling that person not only did they deserve the abuse but they have no value to you or anyone else as a human being. A person that has a personality disorder needs to be validated that they are survivors not just cracked pots that are filling up the physic wards to be pushed aside because the nation as a whole does not want to admitted that our children are still invisible to the nation because no one wants to admitted what a growing amount of people are turning to child abuse to relieve the own frustration of powerlessness of the way their lives are.

You are absolutely right. To tell them alters do not exist discounts their experience. There is healing that comes from acknowledging alters and by casting them aside one only halts the healing process. I find far too many disregard alters by thinking the problem lies with the host so they should only deal with the host.

You have to go forward to go back...

If you want to get back to a healed host you have to go forward through alters to get back to a state of wellness.
