Hi all,

When I was younger (around 10) I went through a stage of "regression" where I started talking like a little kid and doing things a smaller child would do. Would this be considered a form of dissociation? As an adult I occasionally catch myself using that baby voice inside my head, but never aloud.

Thanks so much.
Thanks for this!

oh gosh this reminds me of something that happemed a few days ago. my mom is hard to shop for and we were in the mall so that she could do christms returns and spend money that some of us gave her instead of actually buying the gift and risking her already having it or wrong color, doesnt fit. we were standing in walmart when this group of kids ranging between 8 and 15 and they all were having the greatest time talking baby babble, little kiddy talk and stand up comedy routines. they were doing this because among them they did have a girl who dispite her teen age years she sounded like a child. dont get me wrong they werent making fun of her. it was their way of helping her to fit in because no matter where she went in the mall every time she would make a purchase the cashiers would ask wheres your mommy dear we cant give you this without your mommy because its for teenagers. So this poor girl because of nature has a child like voice at times and has to go around showing her ID.

I also know someone who is now in her late 30's and still has trouble on the phone having people ask her to "go get your mommy dear and tell her its the electric company"

My neice at 8 thru 15 went through stages where she was constantly talking in different voices. whe she was taken to the doctors to check for any throat vocal cord problems they found out it was just her way of going thru puberty.

I met during school a woman who had told me she went through periods of talking younger than she was. turned out she had polyps on her vocal cords. After surgery she was fine.

the lady who was mary poppins had problems with her voice too which turned out to be not a mental disorder. she had something wrong with her vocal cords. she went thru surgery but for her the surgery made things worse so she had to drop out of her musical career for years. shes just starting to do guest spots now.

As you can see there is no way to know a person has a dissociation problem just by whether they talk like a child at times or not. to find out you will need to contact a psychiatrist and your medical doctor. after they have done all their tests with you they are the ones that can tell you if your talking like a child is a mental disorder or a physical problem.

A sister and I sent a whole talking tape to a brother in a child's voice. He responded after..."Don't ever do that again!"

...for years we buried.

This has happened to me in the past (I've asked about it before but there really isn't any info on it).

But they said it was also acting like child as well as talking like one.

yea I saw that and again anyone with or without mental and physical problems of any kind can be acting like a kid. my best friend who is in her 30's sometimes acts like a giddy child in a candy shop or toy store in her its not any disorders she just gets so excited about some things. you ought to see her when shes around the puppies in the pet shop cooing and babbling to them and saying look look oh you got to see this all excited like a kid. I was at my parents and caught my parents neighbors acting like kids over the rose bowl they had on the tube bickering argueing high fiving and sulking/pouting. also acting like a kid and talking like a kid isn't in the dsm for diagnostics for dissociation disorders and its not on and its not a diagnosing factor on the DDIS or the DES or the other one I cant remember the name of at the moment. talking and acting like a kid is just normal for some folks when they get excited, angry or what ever feelings that are really strong in them. heck listen to any parent talking to their child they start talking kiddie talk and acting like a kid to get the kid to do things. its so funny sometimes cause sometimes they forget they are talking to adults and use their sweet kiddie talk voice too. I had this one lady cashier in the store say in a sweet kiddy voice "now honey that is over there in isle 1 you see the one over there?' then she burst out laughing, said she was sorry she just came on her shift after dealing with her 4 yr olds melt down. one of my therapist had me do an assignment of going to a playground and watching kids around my age. it was supposed to show me that I couldn't have been to blame for what happened to me. I got the point but I also saw and heard lots of people adults, kids parents not parents singles and couples playing on, sitting on, using the playground equipment, and many adults talking like kids around each other and the kids.

we cant be sure that this persons talking and acting like a kid is definately a disorder of any kind. all we can do is suggest they see a doctor and a psychiatrist who can do tests that can answer that question.

T said that everyone has an "inner child" .... Most people do not know how to get in touch with the inner child. Others like me with DID took that inner child and placed them in very safe places mentally so they would stay safe.

DID has more than one alter. A primary person with one inner child does not a DID make :-)

If this trait accompanies the accumulation of other DD symtoms is when you want to be watchful. For the sister it may not have been DD but for the other one it was but then again that is why I/we am/are the one responding. Be watchful to discern the difference. We became master of silence. We pray counsellors, therapists, psychologists, Drs, nurses are willing to notice the differences. If they cannot that they would be willing to let go and not do damage like insisting their way is right. Using intuition, along with their training is vital and if they are not watchful they do more harm.

We hope you find the truth in the midst of this dialogue, Soupy Twist,
