We were just informed by Sharon that on the 23rd of this month, we are going to a 'shrink' for getting our Disability/SSI bit, whatever it is.

This has sent us all into panic mode, especially myself, because it is my duty to be out for it to protect us...

Do any of you know what to expect/have suggestions on how to cope? Anything would be appriciated, thank you.

mostly all they do is ask a lot of questions but it would be really important for your host to be the one out and answering if you can manage that

Webber, I just ahd one of these appointments. It was not bad. I was very scared. It was mostly questions about what I am dealing with adn how it affects my everyday functioning. It will be ok. Be honest adn keep yourselves safe...

TD and Lavender, I think I am the host by defenition *laughs* and Everytime before now the core has been out for things like this, and the results have been extremley insulting in the manner of making her sound like an animal ("well groomed girl," ect), which has caused her to not wish for anything to do with them anymore; I don't blame her. Though TD, it is nice to know all they'll be doing is answering questions! Lavender, it's because Jane (T) wants us to get disability and this is part of the process.

Nupoet, it's good to know that's all they'll be doing! This made me feel a little safer in being the one coming out....

This is our second time applying for it again we were on it back in 2000 - 2002. But moved and went to work because we felt safe at the time. The main thing is to allow them to know how DID truely effects your life. The first time we where nervuse because when we are safe we remember alot so the fisrt time we just told them what we remember but after trying to return to work then self harming we had to admit that more then the basics had been effected by our recent trauma. so just be honest this is one time that you should be able to tell the person who does what and when. well even if she doesnt want to be out she should...
we all have to do things that we dont want to and she is the one who they are giving the Dx for anyway I am sure you would pass the test with lots of gold stars by your self but it is brittneys job and her life you guys already have had yours,

It's tomorrow and already, as my wife and (Hill)Erik put it, I am wearing a hole in the carpet *chuckles*. I'm probably making a mountin out of a molehill as usual, but you never know untill it happens, I suppose *shrugs*. I just hope Sharon isn't in the room, that'll make things even more difficult.

I've been trying to breathe all day and it hasn't worked--think of what I'll be like tomorrow! Though at least then it'll be over and (hopefully) I'll have nothing to worry about, a huge weight will be lifted off my shoulders, and I'll leave the place feeling better than I did coming in...<.<

In all honesty, I think I'll be alright if Sharon's not in the room; we always feel nervous around her and we shouldn't have to because she's Core's family, but that's the way things are. A friend told us that of all the places we have to hide, home should be the one we have to worry about the least. Sadly, though, it's the other way around. How ironic is that?

She hates us to put it kindly, and that's just the problem...she'll probably tell them we are coping skills, exuses, we don't exsist, ect.

Don't worry about Sharon. The people at SS mostly take what you and doctors say. I doubt they'll ask her anything. Make sure they know how this DID impacts your life. It's really easy, though I was scared at my interview. Can't they do it over the phone? One of mine was done that way.
Don't worry if you don't get it first time. Nobody does...That's social "insecurity's" little trick. Reapply as soon as you're declined. You will get it. Hugs to you!

Now that you mention it, doing it over the phone does sound easier! As it is, we have to drive all the way downtown!
