Hmmm. I've never heard of a system map.
Care to explain? It sounds interesting and then maybe I could offer some assistance.

We have done a system map.
It basically just helps you get to know your system.
you write down your insiders names, ages, and anything that is desired to be known.
you can even make an announcement inside that this is what needs to be done, and
when people come out they can write their own part (that's how we did it)...
that way you may learn things about your insiders that you didn't know,
because it is coming from them. Hope that helps! Good luck!

you ever hear of a family tree - your mom your pop your sisters your brothers grand parents great grandparents.....

system map is making a family tree of your alters..

mine has these things on it (keep in mind I was in treatment for years and this represents years of working on my DID and my final destination was where I am now living as an integrated person) -

whos is charge
the protectors
the helpers
the treasurer or banker
the cook
the baby sitter
the maid
the ones that worked outside the home and what their jobs were

alters names
their ages
jobs
type or personality (happy sad creative angry curious shy outgoing)
things they liked
things they hated

how the separating happened (who sprang from who is another way to put it)

what their symptoms if dissociating were
what their triggers were

there was more on mine than whats here but this will get you started thinking on how your system is comprised.
Thanks for this!

we have also already done a system map. it was quite some time ago, so mucvh that dont remember exactly when.
but ours was pretty much like the ones these other two posters described. we got 'started' by writeing down the name of our host & those names that she is familiar with, along with their job. the rest of them just kinda seemed ta come from outta nowhere.

Should I attempt this if I don't actually know that much? Like..I know a lot of names/numbers (some groups go by numbers not names) and maybe some characteristics but I'm at a loss at to where they come from, or who they split from...

Violet, as you accept them and try to communicate, they will open up and give you the information you need..... Resistance and rejection will make them hide faster than anything else....at least in my case.
