I feel compassionate for anyone with any mental disorder. I have more than one and im curious as to how the mind works. If anyone isnt offended i would love to know what your experience is like. I think alot about how mental illness affect me and i know there are alot of defferent places your mind can take you.
Thanks for this!

I personally (and everyone with me) are much better at answering questions than just coming right out and talking about ourselves.
It's kinda like we don't know what people want to know about us, so we just wait for them to ask.

this question is hard to answer because there are different cultures, different types of belief systems, different locations ie countries, states continents, different mental health systems. each one has their own guidelines and beliefs about the creation of DID.

Here (North eastern USA) where I am the mental health community believe it is caused by extreme abuse.

Again this question depends on location, personal beliefs, beliefs of the mental health community and what have you.

I no longer switch into alters but when I did it was because of a multitude of things.

Switching into alters is different for everyone. what causes my friend stacy to switch is not the same triggers for my switching before I was integrated.

other than the diagnostic criteria everyone with this is different and it affects each of us in different ways.

the best way to answer these questions is for you to go to a therapist or psychiatrist where you are, work with those people and discover through therapy why you have DID (cant remember if you are diagnosed or not, excuse the error if it isnt you that has DID), through therapy you can also discover what makes you switch into your alters.

so punk rock,
after you click on Dissociative Disorders forum to get here, at the top of the page are listed several "sticky's" or detailed information about D.I.D., especially the first "sticky" Understanding the Dissociative Disorders.

there are many different "levels" if you will, from very mild dissociation such as everybody experiences when, say, driving and you forget momentarily and then realize you missed your turn! up to and including the mind splitting off into different and distinct personalities. in between are fugue states, amnesia, depersonalization, derealization, and others. just FYI
Thanks for this!

I think so, yes... but it is not always abuse related.
It can be any traumatic event.
For me, it's because I was born at 26 weeks, barely survived, spent the majority of my childhood in the hospitals for countless surgeries, etc etc etc.
In my opinion, the stigma that DID cause is childhood abuse has gone too far. Everyone automatically assumes that is the cause... no one ever talks about the other causes.

Some people even believe there are "natural multiples" who came about as a natural part of their development, not as an outcome of abuse or trauma.

I read like somewhere that like 99% or 98% had one (a tramadic past)... in science you cant really genoralize cus it doesnt work that way... But not all people with a tramadic past will get DID like PTSD... not all get it.... However DID is a debatible Degnoses meaning like almost if not everything some could be miss diegnossed.....

just what I heard
