Out flopped a wet, brown, ugly thing which quickly died.

Did the story make you afraid that you would be forced out of your cocoon before you are ready to be a butterfly ??

My friend, that will not happen, you will hatch naturally & beautifully.

I didn't write it. But I will share it again. I hope no one gets sad.

~~~~~~~~~~
There is a Native American legend that states that if you whisper hopes, wishes, prayers, or dreams into the ears of a Monarch Butterfly, your wish will be granted when the butterfly is released.
~~~~~~~~~~

COCOON
(Found on the net, author unknown.)

Along a dusty road in India there sat a beggar who sold cocoons. A young boy watched him day after day, and the beggar finally beckoned to him.

"Do you know what beauty lies within this chrysalis? I will give you one so you might see for yourself. But you must be careful not to handle the cocoon until the butterfly comes out."

The boy was enchanted with the gift and hurried home to await the butterfly. He laid the cocoon on the floor and became aware of a curious thing. The butterfly was beating its fragile wings against the hard wall of the chrysalis until it appeared it would surely perish, before it could break the unyielding prison. Wanting only to help, the boy swiftly pried the cocoon open.

Out flopped a wet, brown, ugly thing which quickly died. When the beggar discovered what had happened, he explained to the boy "In order for the butterfly wings to grow strong enough to support him, it is necessary that he beat them against the walls of his cocoon. Only by this struggle can his wings become beautiful and durable. When you denied him that struggle, you took away from him his only chance of survival."

May the walls of your cocoon
Be just thick enough,

To allow you to struggle
Just long enough,

To emerge into
The beautiful person,

I already know you to be.

The story is a kind of answer to the "why?" people have been asking about on that other thread.

Thank you for repeating it for those of us who missed it the first time.

The butterfly died, but now the boy knows. He only wanted to help.

The storyteller wants to make the point strongly that our struggle is worthwhile, helps us to survive and transform.

Petunia, you share such inspiring words and images and stories. You mean well and you do well. If anyone gets sad, that really is their sadness. You are not bad. You are worthy and good and pretty cool too!

Thank you for sharing this, Petunia. I have heard it before and I think it is a wonderful story. In a way the ending is sad, but like Sarah said, the boy learnt from what happened. Who knows how many other people he told so taht they would not make the same mistake.

thank you for re-posting this, petunia. it does sort of have a sad ending...but zorah's right...it seems to help a bit with the 'whys' of it all. ((((((((petunia)))))))))

personally, i don't think any of us flopped out wet/brown/ugly/dead. i think that despite the prying open of our cocoons we managed to survive and become beautiful, each unique like butterflies (and that includes you, petunia Cocoon *DELETED* *DELETED* )

I also think the story is good as an illustration of what we are going through now - the struggling will make us stronger and more beautiful.

petunia, what you have posted is beautiful. It made us all think about what we are doing and the struggle we have. It sort of seems like its worth it now.

We going to be beautiful and strong!
