My baby brother just called and said, "I'm hungry". He's asked for ALOT of things. He's never said those words. They'll have food tonight and hubby and I will go and get them groceries until Weds. when they get their check. I will NOT give them money.

I can't say what that did inside...

I bet a lot of emotional issues rose to the top for you KD. Try to look at it as you would do that for any of us that would ask... and not become too personally involved. (I know, easy for me to say.)

I've been there too...with him it was DUS's, etc. I used to work for atty's so guess who he'd call? The last time I called someone that I used to work for who was a judge then, and he called to ask a "favor". When he called me back, he said, "I will NOT do this again. I can't believe that they only had him paying $25 a month on 7,000 and he wasn't even doing that!" He was right. Since then, I've greatly slacked off on my "help". It still hurts.

Yes, they did...for alot of reasons.

I'm trying, Sky. I'm SOOOOOO much better with that these last few years. When the baby was born, he became my first priority and where any extra money goes, etc. I had to choose, and did. I will make the same choice every time.

Which brings about another issue. I'm concerned. I think the baby will be with me full time again soon. Brother and I are going to talk. I know that he's coming to me full time next year and will stay with us from then on out because of school and their inabilities, etc. However, I think it should be sooner than later.

Be proud that you did what was right. $$ wasn't what they needed to sustain nurishment, it was food.
When do you think you will talk to him about having the baby come live with you? I know you are dealing with so much and I am sure you feel pressured.

Thanks everyone. My younger brother has seriously mental health issues. He and his girlfriend had this beautiful little man. My brother did most of his caretaking with my mother and I watching closely. At the end of September, 2004, he came to me happy and healthy...just before his second birthday, and well when his parents split up and his father went in the hospital and his mother went on the streets. I left my career and became a stay at home mom again, at 40.

I'd kept him part time since he was just 5 days old. He's never doubted love. He's always managed to have good nurturing. When he came to me, he was VERY dependent on me. It was an adjustment for the little thing. Some would say he was "spoiled for mom". I don't. I say it was something he needed to bond and feel secure.

They got back together and maintained, but the baby stayed with me fulltime for over a year.

This little man had bonded with especially his daddy, he needed them in his life. We started short periods of them getting him, and for about 4 months now they've gotten him for 3 day/3 nights per week.

My brother just spoke with me about school. He know the troubles they've had with his sister in school, etc., and I told him that obviously I would want him here for school. He agreed.

They're just not doing as well right now. I can see things escalating. They're not wanting to pick him up when they should on Sundays as well. I think my brother knows that he's coming back here, and if he does it will be legal. He's so precious and so smart. That needs to be nurtured.

He's at the age where it's hard to get a natural pic because he wants to pose...lol. My gosh, the smile that goes with his pose is like what he does when he shows what a good job he's done brushing his teeth! LOL. Remember that? hehe.

Also, he wants to be silly. So I was glad to catch a natural little man. LOL.

i do, jan. thank you!

he went with mama tonight, after i took her to the store and bought $65 in food. then we were on our way back to my house and she was on empty...literally! i said, "mary, you have no gas!" she said, i'll make it. ugh. she was going to risk drinving a full 15 mins away on empty on a cold day with the baby in the car.

needless to say we went back and got gas.

the little man didn't want to go home. when i called tonight, he got on phone and said he wanted to come back. yes, things are turning back around to where he needs to be here more again. this time it will be permanent. he's getting older and needs the security of our home and stability.

here we go again folks!

I respect you for what you are doing. I really do. I have 7 kids of my own and I know how hard it can be at times. BUT, we have grown up, the little ones haven't had the chance yet and I think that it is great what you are doing for the little man.

As far as your brother goes.....I would have to say that, it doesn't have anything to do with whether or not you are a good sister or aunt. You are doing best by NOT enabling him. That makes you a good and thoughtful 'person'. JMO

Thank you so much. When the little man was born, I remember thinking that his life had just begun and now it was about him. My brother just had to know that.

One of the reasons my brother is the way he is is because it wasn't about him enough. This baby, hopefully, will never know that in his world.
