my psychologist seems to think I dis associate. Maybe I do, I guess. I've given up on a lot of stuff, just doin time on earth now, doing some good as well. I find peace by helping my wife and step-son live and get by in life well enough to be healthy. I've accepted by thoughts aren't correct, guess I got to find out they are more "incorrect" than I thought.. Yee ha guess.

Life just keeps gittin weirder, so whats new? nothing...

How is the dissociation a problem for you?

here in NY dis associate and dissociate are different.

Here where I live and work **Dis associate** means you are not part of something... a conscious choice is made..

examples
you are not part of your high school sports team anymore, you quit the team,
you are not part of the family any more they disinherited you.
you are not part of life, you willfully give up on living your life.

here where I live and work **Dissociation** means you separate yourself from your emotions due to things like trauma, stress, medications.... most times its where a conscious choice is not made, more something that happens to you, not something you choose to do..

examples
you took some medication and it made you feel foggy headed, numb, like you are moving too slow..

you are stressed out so your consciousness shuts down so that you only feel numb
you feel the world isnt real
you have trouble remembering things due to stress, trauma ...
you feel you are not real
you feel the world around you isnt real
you make up dream worlds to live in instead of real life
you feel disconnected to your body parts
your physical body is functioning but your consciousness is not connected to reality.

that said Im not sure what you need from us..

was there a question you wanted to ask or were you posting as a way to vent (let out) what you are felling and doing?

I didn't think about my question much. I guess I'm fishing for more info. Thanks. I didn't mean to offend, if I did. I think strangely.
Thanks for this!

I'm not offended. I learned something. I've never heard of diss associate in all those interesting ways. I never thought of it before accually.

But now I wonder does it mean when I'm useing my fantasy/sci-fi movies and books to excape dealing the stress of reality (since I tend to disociate), am I disociating or am I diss associating? Or is this a cope mechanisim like I want it to be? hmmm.

Still it brings up a good question for me to talk about with my T about. Whether you were fishing for information, just wondering things out loud, or trying to figure out what it all means in the grand scheme of things for you in therapy. It has brought a up valid point for me. Amandalouise's answer with it's distinction between the two words was like an "ah ha" moment for me. I thank you for you post that made that posible. I know I avoid emotions and stress, but maybe its time to take a look at how I'm doing that and question just how helpful it is for me to zone out of the real world. Doesn't really get my goals met, sure it keeps me calm. But maybe this coping method has become a way to simply avoid therapy completely. To stagnate.

Sometimes the unintended consequences happen when you're not looking, or you see them from the cornor of your eye. When you are busy looking for the answers everywhere, and you can't find them. Something like your unintended question pops up and makes it possible for someone else to see what was in front of them all along. If that makes any sense at all.

Thanks. I thought I'd done something wrong. I'm too sensitive,

Puzzle is right. This is PC. Here Tolerance, Acceptance, acknowledgement are not dirty words. There is no judgement here--no diagnoses, but that ok, because it a safe place to learn, question, and talk about all kinds of things. There is a forum for just about anything and someone might point out a better forum place but no one will judge you or snarl at you for posting in a forum that wasn't quite right. The only thing off limit that I am aware of is talk about active SU. That is for P-docs(psychiatrist), T's(therapist/ psychologist) and SU hot-lines they have numbers for those and links. Other wise nope, no reason to feel bad about questions.
