I have a very good friend with DID. I hadn't experienced it until last week. She texted me and told me she wanted nothing to do with me and if I try to contact her she will get a restraining order on me. This is so out of character for her and it scares me and depresses me to not have her in my life. Does this behavior sound like DID?

It could be many things, this is too much of an isolated incident to be termed as anything,
also your friend can only be dx DID by a professional, not by anyone on this board based on hearsay.
That behavior could be anything, from normal depending on the circumstances she is in...to abnormal and be part of a behavior in any of the many mental disorders out there.

But, Yes if she has DID, people with DID, can sometimes stop contact with someone suddenly for what seems like no apparent reason. Ive done things like this with a few people in my life, not to this extent, or so drastically but yes, its a possibility.

Cannot tell you for sure , however.

anyone DID or not can get a restraining order against anyone just by going to their local court house and showing proof of their reason for wanting one such as being harrassed (going to someones house too often or uninvited can fit harrassment in some locations) emotional or physical abuse... theres lots of reasons why a person wants and gets a restraining order...they dont have to have DID and alters,

a person telling their friends not to come by anymore is also not a symptom nor criteria for having DID...anyone DID or not can choose their own friends and who they want to hang out with.

you can find the diagnostic criteria for DID here -

http://www.behavenet.com/dissociative-identity-disorder

Symptoms for DID each person has their own ways in which alters affect them protect them such as getting the host/core out of abusive - mental physical emotional or harrassing - relationships.

alters usually dont step in on friendships unless there is some sort of danger or situaiton that the host/ core can not handle.

my suggestion- stay away from this friend until this friend seeks you out, otherwise DID or not you could be on the receiving end of a restraining order and possible jail time depending on your locations rules, laws and what ever the situation is...

Years ago ihad a best friend but 1 of my teen alters didnt like her ( she doesnt like anyone). One night she told my friend that " i cant stand you"& got in a big fight with her. I had no knowledge of this. She also told her off via email. Eventually best friend broke up with me. I was devastated.
Its quite possible your friend doesnt know about the text. Can u talk to her?

Don't do anything. Just wait.
If your friend gets in touch w/you and act like it didn't happen. Let them know. But be easy on them. As in not angry. It's not something they could help.
I'd want to know if I'd done something like that. People w/ DID are still responsible for their behavior. So they should know.
are you sure they are DID?
