I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and at one point carried a diagnosis of DID for a short time before the diagnosis was changed back to schizophrenia. I believe that in psychosis my personality broke and appeared as dissociative identity disorder but it pulled back together somewhat.

Anyway, during my time online I've come across many people with illness. A woman approached me about seven years ago through a blog I wrote. We started a correspondence but I feel she's been mocking me. When I would become symptomatic she suddenly began complaining of the same symptoms though she never had a diagnosis or said she didn't at the time.

Now she is telling me she has DID and I am guessing she is using this as an excuse for her poor behaviour with me. She suddenly says she's had a diagnosis for years and has "a hundred+" personalities (her words.)

Is this possible? How could one be aware of that many alters? Or do you think she is not only mocking those who suffer from schizophrenia but those who suffer from true DID as well.

Thanks for your time. Be well everyone.

Hello MickG,

It's difficult to know if she is for real or not, people can say what they like online. DID is quite rare but it is possible to have a great number of 'personalities' though that person would of had to have been in therapy for an awful long time to find that out. Take care of you, ok.

DID is no excuse for poor behavior. However, yes, if abuse was severe its possible to have that many alters.
Thanks for this!

there is such a thing as people who have the need to be ill, take on others appearance, behaviors, postures what ever. people in life online and off do it all the time.

as to could a person really have over 100 alternate personalities..sure they can. everyone's internal system is different and set up to best help them to survive/ensure their survival. if this person needed that many alters in order to ensure her survival her mind would have split into that many alters. there is no limit to how many alters a persons mind can split/dissociate into being.. the only limitations are in the diagnostics that say a person must have at the least 2 alternate personalities..

as to can someone be aware of that many alters ...sure they can.. having awareness of ones alters is called co consciousness. everyone has their own internal system patterns/way of being. therefore everyone has their own levels of distinction between their self and their alters some have total awareness, some only have a little bit and others have various degrees in between total and none.
