I thought I posted this but not sure where it went to! Anyways, does anyone else think outloud? I have literally carried on full conversations with myself outloud. Alot of times when I am looking in a mirror or driving. I have the voices in my head but some how when they surface, if someone was in the other room they would probably think there were to people carrying on with one another. When I go out in public, especially alone I have too tell myself "keep it inside" It's been embarressing for me because I have been caught by coworkers who will ask me Did you say something? And I will basically say "don't mind me I am just talking to myself" and the comeback, and I have heard this many times before is "as long as your not talking back to yourself your ok" But my thing is I do. I answer my own questions. Sometimes my head will ask the question and the answer comes outloud. Not sure if I am explaining this well. Just sometimes my brain feels like it is in overdrive. As you can probabaly tell already, alot of my post tend too start rambling, for that I do apologize but I just can't help it. Thank you for your patience everyone.
Cher

yup. I had to teach myself not to talk out loud. the way I did it was carrying a note book and writing what I heard in my head then looking around to see waht around me matched those voices The thing that matched with the voices is called a trigger. Take steps so the trigger no longer upsets me and the voices stopped.
For example every time I went down this one street the voices in my head started going it would end up with me blurting out those words and thoughts. One day when those voices and words started I stopped what I was doing and pulled out my note book and wrote what I heard - 53, green, maple, this is so fun, apples, I want one.... Then I looked around. my eyes kept going back to a pick up truck so I started writing about the pick up truck. the bottom line was that it was a 1953 green pickup truck that reminded me of a pick up truck I rode it to the apple orchards in the summer and carried maple suryp and sap in the winter. Once I figured that out the voices stopped. If that truck is parked there and I pass it now the voices still start but now to stop them all I have to do is say ok its just a memory right now I am safe and biking to the library and the voices stop. I know that they keep replaying when ever I see that truck so I know there is more to that memory but so far I have not had any voices or other associated memories that will tell me more. So I just acknowledge the memory is there and ground myself back into the present. |

Hi Cher....I do the solo routine myself(s)..I know allot of people that do this, and I dont think its all just a part of the DID phenomena..but it just makes it more interesting for us because while most people will eventually talk to themself..we talk to ourselves.. I must admit I am guilty of finding myself alone in the Chat room here at PC..and well...you know..its pretty lonely in there..big empty space..and before I know it..smile..just would be bad if someone caught me/us chatting to ourselves..but it does gives the chat room a whole new use....

I had no idea anyone else did that.
I do it all the time and i have to remind myself to hush up because other people are around. Sometimes i slip up and a sentence or two sneeks out while im in public. lol but quite frankly i love it makes me feel not so alone so yes...there are others who talk to themselves like u do |

I find it easier at times to talk myself "through" a project. It helps me stay focussed. I guess I learned it from being little, you know, for a singleton... like repeating something when you're scared, something your big brother told you like there aren't any ghosts in the dark??? lol
I think it is common for those who have DID, a way to communicate with others inside, or maybe also to take more control?

I am alone so much I don't realize I do it till somebody visits and says "What?".... mostly I make noises instead of words, but in my head I'm talking.

Thanks all! This really makes me feel so much better. Sometimes I like to think I am my own bestfriend. I do this alot when I am getting dressed and looking in a mirror and when I drive. I have to say if it helps me accomplish life's tasks then I think it is ok. We're not hurting anyone.
