Has anyone read 'When Rabbit Howels" by Truddi Chase?

We are currently reading it but have to go slow and stop reading it for periods of time.

At the same time, 'our' system can relate in a lot of ways.

Just wondering what others thoughts might be.

Posting it here because it is a book about DID.

no I didnt read that book it was too traumatic for me, every time I tried to read it I would dissociate. with my alters they were so categorical (other locations may use the terms transparent, distinct, cleaar cut) that when I dissociated I would not remember what my alters were doing, that includes if I dissociated while reading triggering books, magazines, newspapers, even online..

My therapist told me not to feel bad about not being able to read books like this one because it was pretty normal that dissociative's have a hard time reading anything with abuse in it, and most if not all, cannot read triggering things like what is found with in that book because traumatic events, objects, words, ....cause them to dissociate.

I have never tried reading it after I was integrated.I guess I just dont have the need to place myself in triggering situations such as reading books that tend to trigger and cause me to have my dissociative symptoms.

I do know some people that have read that book and ended up doing more harm to their self then good because even though it kept causing them to have dissociative symptoms they pushed on through it, even at a slow pace. which resulted in their creating false memories and false alters..

suggestion please be careful when reading that book, take take plenty of breaks and talk with your treatment providers as you are going through the book, that way if you are a dissociative, not only will you be able to process what you are reading, your internal system will be able to too.

My most favorite book is

MPD from the InsideOut. by Barry Cohen (yet written by different parts of many different ppl)

If you have DID just be careful those books are great at triggering your system.

Just be careful just because you may think you have or you may have a dissociative disorder I hope you can talk to your T before reading something that you might not be ready for. Like knowing how to Ground yourself immediately. Those books are great but they still trigger me. So just be careful.

I've tried reading it a few times. But, it's just to triggering. I like the book MPD from the inside out. I have a couple self-help books I use. I likeed Sybil, it's can be triggering. I've read a couple other books. But, can't remember the titles. I know I'd recognice it, if I heard it.

Hi. Thanks for all the feedback. Yes, reading slow and being careful. Sometimes a page at a time. Sometimes not reading for periods of time. I think what is helpful is seeing how her system is different. Sometimes we feel we don't fit the typical mold. Our T tells us every system is different, designed to be the way it needed to be to help us survive.

Our first T gave us 'MPD From the Inside Out.' That book was triggering at first too, if i recall right. Of course, we were newly dx'd then.
Another i liked was The Family Inside. Working with the Multiple.'

BTW, we've been in therapy 7 yrs and have avoided books like these (personal stories) and have just begun to attempt reading some. Just thought it might be helpful to read about what others' experienced, how they expereinced it, etc. Maybe i/we would not feel so alone and some things might make sense.
take good care.
