Read an article that proposed those with DID have false psuedo memories that can't be corroborated (not sure of the spelling of that word). Oooooh, I'm so mad. Well, a lot if my abuse can be corroborated. Everytime our mom attempted to kill us she was locked up in a mental hospital. I used to have letters where she admitted to trying to kill us but in a fit of forgiveness, I threw them out . my sister's dad witnessed some if the abuse and he is still alive.our mom was locked up a couple years ago for trying to kill her present husband. Then my brother was shot and killed when he was alone with her, but the sheriff's deputy said it may well have been her that pulled the trigger, but because no one did a gunpowder test there is no proof and she'll also get a 200k life insurance policy.
My sister had the same SA and drugging happen to her. So I definitely don't have false or psuedo memories. It's bad enough we experienced that hell and keep reliving it, but to have some scholar compare our memories of abuse to memories of alien abductions? I guess i'll just have to remember the words of a great man who said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."

I've read articles like that too but they dont make me angry. Everyone whether they are mentally ill or not has false pseudo memories. let me give you an example. my wife and I just became parents to twins. I have been having many conversations with my mom and other relatives about things when I was a child. in my memory my bedroom walls have always been this weird shade of brown with old pictures, newspapers, school papers stuck to it. In my memory it was a younger sister who collected flowers and pinned them to the wall. well turns out my bedroom walls went through a couple different paintings/wall papering. What I thought was a weird shade of brown was actually when my siblings and I had brought mud into the house and got into a mud fight in the bedroom, the old newspapers I remember was actually a wallpaper you can buy in the store. it was me that collected and pinned flowers to the wall not my sister.

no one remembers the same things in exactly the same way. not even those that go through the same thing. heres another situation from my college psych class.. one day my instructor came in the room wearing a red tie. during a short break during the class time he changed his tie to a blue one. then he surprised us with a writing assignment while he took 5 minutes out in the hall. the assignment was to describe him. While he was outside the room he removed his tie. He collected the papers then read them allowed. We were so surprised that some of us had the memory of him in the red tie and some had the memory of him in the blue tie and some of us remembered him in a white / red striped tie (his shirt was red and white stripes not his tie)

even with how I remember the days of being abused and after during court and other trauma related memories I remember things one way and others in my family remember things in their own ways and some of my memories are not always spot on target. some of them are tainted based on how I was....feeling... not on the actual facts.

the brain is an amazing thing that stores memories in some pretty funky ways some times and some of that time it doesnt always store memories with 100 percent accuracy.

I bet if you really take the time to think about things you will find a few memories that were one way to you and other family members remember things differently.. and you may also find you have false pseudo memories... those memories that are not 100 percent accurate but are more like how you felt at that time.

I'm sorry for what you went through with your mother and I'm sorry that you read that article and it made you so angry. I can certainly understand why it would make you angry. I'm sure it made you feel invalidated and that's never a good thing.

This is a big world likewater, there are going to be those out there that don't agree with us or see things as others see things. It's just one of those things that not everyone is going to be on the same page about, no matter what anyone does to try to change their minds.

You, in yourself, know exactly what you have been through and what your dx is. You can validate yourself! If you have loved ones who believe, a T that believes and good friends that believes, then does it really matter what the writer of that article believes? In the grand scheme of things....who the hell cares what they believe as long as you know and are getting support and are living the best way you can....that's all that really matters isn't it?

I validate you likewater.
Thanks for this!
