you cant find any info on this because here in america we are all converting from the DSM IV TR diagnostics for mental disorders to the DSM 5 diagnostics. the result is treatment providers are removing the out dated diagnostics from their websites, information centers, information pamphlets.... and replacing them with the new diagnostics. its going to take some time as not all treatment providers have their now DSM 5 book yet.

Dissociative amnesia is when a person has a special type of forgetfulness/memory problem that goes beyond the normal forgetfulness/memory problems and cant not be explained by other physical and mental health issues..

a general example a person gets abused. their brain blocks of the memory of that abuse. they no longer remember being abused. the memory isnt gone. its just stored in their unconscious until they are no longer in the same state of mind that caused them to block that memory. they dont remember what led up to that blank space of time they dont remember, they dont remember what happened during that space of time and most times do not remember what triggered that time loss of memory.

another example a woman in labor.. labor is very painful for women, they go through this extreme pain, the baby is born and what do they remember most the sight of seeing their baby for the first time.. the memory of the pain of labor diminishes and for some they have no memory of the labor pain some for years and many recover that painful memory of being in labor on the childs first birthday. some women actually relive that memory of labor on their childs birthday.

Another example of dissociative amnesia would be a burn victim.. they wake up in the hospital to find they are burned, their house gone and have no idea what happened. until one day the memory that they were cooking dinner and a grease fire happened.they suddenly remember the pain of being on fire.

Here in America DDNOS is now called UDD (unspecified dissociative disorder) the memory problems with this are the same as the other dissociative disorders....forgetfulness that goes beyond the normal forms of forgetfulness.

examples a person loses their job, this is so traumatic for them that their brain blocks off the memory of why they lost their job, how they lost their job, where they worked or other aspects of the job.

mind you this is just what we here in NY are going by for the standards of these disorders..

to find out how the new diagnostics are interpreted in your location and whether your problems are called these things by your locations standards you will need to contact your treatment providers.

Hello, tooovercome.

hello im new.I have a question

I hope you find it helpful posting your thoughts here at PC forums.

I think your question about amnesia is best answered by a therapist experienced in DID and DDNOS.

But I am sure you have read from the internet that there are varying degrees of amnesia. From your other post, there is suggestion where you are on the spectrum of amnesia.
